D-RATS can also work with a TNC or network connection instead of a D-STAR radio. Some say it’s a favorite packet radio program because of its many capabilities.

D-STAR stands for “Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Radio”. It’s an open digital amateur radio standard that allows users to connect with others globally through a network of digital repeaters. D-STAR radios can communicate in 4.8kbps digital voice (DV) mode and 128kbps data (DD) mode.
D-RATS is a free, easy to use, multi-platform program for data communications with D-STAR devices or through theInternet.
